There are 3 types of hair colour

Did you know there are 3 main types of hair colour?

I bet many of you have either grabbed a box off the shelf because it looked like a good shade, but you were totally unaware of what you were getting yourself into? Right? Or, you asked your hairdresser to cover your roots but they never actually explained your options?

So, let me tell you, we have:

Permanent - a dense lipstick like coverage with the ability to cover up to 100% grey hair. It gets right in to the middle section of your hair, disrupts the structure, and once the desired shade fades on the outside, you are left with natural warmth, or ‘brass’.

Demi Permanent - between a lip gloss and a lipstick. A Demi has the ability to act like a permanent, it can shift your natural pigment. But (here’s where it gets technical) depending on your natural shade, your chosen artificial shade, and what its mixed with (developer volume) will depend on how it reacts with your hair. Its grey coverage is up to around 75%.

Semi Permanent - you may have heard your hairdresser refer to this as a ‘gloss’ or ‘toner’. A Semi is a deposit only colour, a stain. It will not fully cover grey and it cannot shift the natural pigment of the hair. It can help to neutralise tone and provide a delicate shade and is often used after a lightening service or to top up previous faded colour.

My SeamlessBlend technique never uses permanent colour. I use the most gentle Demi and mainly Semi’s on my blending clients. This ensures the healthiest of hair, seamless grow out and no worry about new brass occurring.
